NEW TO HOCKEY
Wondering how to get started in hockey and what to expect? We’ve got you covered! Hockey can seem overwhelming. Our goal is to make hockey accessible by providing tailored information and low cost entry level programs to new families so kids across our community can play the great sport of hockey. We’re excited to have you join the Westonka Hockey family—see you at the rink!
HOW DO I GET STARTED?
There are several different paths kids and families can take to get started in Hockey. Below are ways to get your child started on the hockey path!
LEARN TO SKATE
Skating is the most important skill for hockey. Learn to Skate is a program offered in the community in partnership with Westonka Youth Hockey Association and Westonka Community Education. While knowing how to skate prior to starting hockey is not required, kids who have skated before are able to step on the ice with confidence as they start Mites. Sessions are offered in Summer, Fall, and Winter. Check Community Education Catalog for registration information.
MINI HAWK ROOKIE CAMP
Mini Hawk Rookie Camp is a fall camp offered every year for first time skaters. The camp is an opportunity for new players to wear the equipment and learn about the sport of hockey. It is offered every fall, prior to the hockey season. See the link below for more information.
SIGN UP FOR MITE HOCKEY
Register for Mite hockey. The program is for kids ages 4 thru 9, with most kids starting during their Pre-K, Kindergarten, or 1st grade year. Pre-Kindergarten (Mini Mites) season runs from mid-Nov to Mid Feb. K thru 3rd grade (Mite 1 - Mite 4) season runs from end of October to early March. See the link below for more information.
OPEN SKATE
Playing hockey is fundamentally about skating. Visit our open skate tab to get the most current schedule on Open Skating in our community.
